112 Drought Recovery Assistance for Isolated Children The Assistance for Isolated Children Scheme assists primary or secondary students who cannot attend the appropriate state school because of geographical isolation. It can also assist isolated families with a tertiary student who would otherwise attend a secondary school. Support for children of drought affected families If you have been affected by drought and this has impacted your financial situation, Centrelink may be able to provide payments for your dependent children that they would not otherwise be entitled to. Remote Area Allowance Remote Area Allowance contributes towards some of the costs if living in remote areas. You do not have to apply for Remote Area Allowance. It is paid to you automatically if you receive an eligible payment and you live in certain tax zones in Australia. Rural Services Officers Rural Services Officers connect rural customers to the support available through Centrelink, and can provide referrals to other government and non-government agencies. They are highly trained, mobile officers who can provide you with the latest information and assistance, wherever you may be. Centrelink Agents and Access Points Centrelink has a network of more than 375 Agents and 190 Access Points who provide a variety of services to customers on Centrelink’s behalf in rural, regional and remote Australia. Centrelink Agents are located within organisations in your local community and are trained to assist people in doing their business with Centrelink. Selected Access Points can also sight, copy and verify a customer’s Proof of Identity documents. Rural News Rural News is a free magazine tailored for rural communities and provides information on a range of payments and services delivered by the Australian Government. The FIS helps people to make informed decisions about investment and financial issues. Social Workers Centrelink Social Workers provide free, confidential professional counselling and referral to community support services for customers who may be facing difficult personal and family situations. Low Income Health Care Card A Low Income Health Care Card is available to people with incomes below set levels and can be used for a range of concessions. Customers who receive ECRP are issued a Health Care Card automatically and do not need to claim.
